1) I am pregnant with a cold. What medications can I take?
There is some evidence showing that salt water gargling helps with the sore throat and other cold symptoms. You can dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a full glass of warm water and then gargle the solution for a few seconds before spitting it out.
In general, you should try to avoid taking medications; however, there are medications that are safe to take during pregnancy. If salt water gargle does not help you, you should consider taking Tylenol and Benadryl; these two medications have not shown to increase the risk of birth defects in the studies of animals. Tylenol can help with the sore throat and the body aches. Benadryl may help with the cough and the secretion.
If you have severe persistent cold symptoms or fever, you should contact your doctor or go to the Emergency Department.

Yes, you can eat fish and shrimp but limit to less than 6 ounces a week. You should avoid eating raw fish because it may contain parasites such as flukes or worms. You should also avoid eating shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish due to high levels of mercury in these fish.
